 It is a commonly known fact that the Serbs aren't fond of Muslims. On a personal level, my husband had been told by his own Serb uncle a Muslim man shouldn't be permitted to marry a Christian woman. Obviously , he was devastated and didn't return to our location for two months. Then, he was ready to undergo union with a Christian woman only if there wasn't any immediate danger to his own life. 

 Luckily , he escaped to Canada where he could wed a gorgeous woman without fear of repercussions. Sadly, his experience is not an isolated person. In Belgrade he witnessed the way the Muslim man beat up a Christian woman because she didn't complete a religious test. The lady afterwards died from her injuries. 

 In reality, this episode took place in front of my eyes and that I neglected to intervene. That is why I use the"No" option when I fill out the" Volunteering in my Own Nation" self assessment form. However, it should be stated that the same cannot be said concerning the volunteer services in Afghanistan and Iraq. There have been a number of instances of violence and rape against minorities. The sufferers are Muslims and Christians alike. 

 I can only hope that the government of Serbia will introduce a law which prohibits all forms of discrimination irrespective of sex, race or faith. I was surprised to find out that the government of Serbia has nothing good to propose as far as the security of minority communities is worried. There is no legal provision for victims of crimes to claim compensation from the criminals. Hence, filling the"Volunteering in my country" self assessment form is absolutely voluntary. 

 In a situation like this, any person who wants to assist the disadvantaged people of his nation should do so without any feeling of pity. According to a recent survey, nine out of every ten Serbs consider themselves as great philanthropists! This is quite an wonderful figure when you come to consider it. It also goes on to show that not all them are selfish or egoistic. There are some very real feelings of empathy and concern which they wish to help other people in need.
